Songorwa Mary The Impact of School Inspection on Schools. Management in Tanzania


The book investigated the impact of school inspection activities on Secondary Schools Management in Moshi Municipality, as perceived by educators. The book used a cross-sectional survey design. Three hundred thirty- three respondents in 22 schools were included. The data gathered were coded, treated and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, Spearman's rho correlation, and content analysis. The alpha level selected for determination of statistical significance and hypothesis testing was set at 0.05. Findings revealed that most of the respondents agreed that school inspectors' recommendations improved Schools management. Teachers in private schools hold better perception on school inspection activities than public school teachers. Male teachers hold the same perceptions as female teachers regarding inspection activities on schools. Older teachers tend to have better perceptions of inspection activities on school discipline and school development than younger teachers. Qualified teachers tend to have lower perceptions of inspection activities on school governance, and experienced teachers tend to have lower perceptions of inspection activities on school documents.

Master's Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Pedagogy - The Teacher, Educational Leadership, , language: English, abstract: School inspection is one of the most challenging aspects in education; it represents an approach of accountability in teaching and learning. Moreover, school inspection provides policy and decision makers with accurate information about the current state of education in their respective institutions. The main purpose of this study is to examine and determine the impact of school inspection on teaching and learning in Dubai-based private schools, and to give some recommendations into how to conduct effective school inspection that would positively influence teaching and learning. This research included 37 participants; 2 inspectors, 4 head-teachers and 31 teachers, from 4 private schools, who follow different types of curricula, from all grades of performance according to inspection reports conducted in the 2014/2015 academic year.The findings show that school inspection has a significant role in school improvement, especially in teaching and learning. Teachers acknowledge the feedback that inspectors give to them. However, school inspection also has a negative impact on teaching and learning; for instance, it forces some schools to show activities they have never done before. Information and communication technology has direct role to play in education and if used appropriately can bring many benefits to the classroom. ICT use in school management is important if its impact has to be felt in education. Hence it is crucial to investigate the issues pertaining to the low level of adoption of ICT in schools. This book explores underachievement of boys and girls in secondary education. The author focuses her empirical study on the alarming underachievement of African Caribbean boys in British schools in comparison to other groups. She also adopts a historical perspective to compare West Indian children who arrived in Britain in the 1960s and 1970s (many labeled as ESN) (Coard 1971) to problems faced by black boys in today’s classrooms. Janet Graham also explores the impact of globalization, population movement, government policies, and diversity on black boys’ education provision in inner-city schools in Britain. She investigates masculinity, subcultures, peer-group pressures, and exclusion from school and their impact on black boys’ education. The institutional focus study sets the context for the empirical study and provides a perspective from voices of black boys in one inner-London school to find out what they think about school, learning, subcultures, peer-group pressures, and teachers. As a contrast, teachers’ views of the boys are also provided. Scientific Study from the year 2012 in the subject Pedagogy - The Teacher, Educational Leadership, grade: A, University of Dodoma (College of Education), language: English, abstract: ABSTRACT This study identifies and describes the effect of occupational stress in the life of public primary school head teachers in Tanzania. The study involved 100 respondents systematically randomly selected from Chamwino and Dodoma urban districts. Both qualitative and quantitative approaches were adopted in which interviews, structured questionnaires and documentary reviews were employed. The findings revealed that head teachers in rural public primary schools studied express experiencing more stress than those in urban schools as a result head teachers suffer as far as school administration is concern. The findings of this study recommend that the government should empower head teachers in terms of training on stress coping strategies as well as resources allocation as a possible measure to facilitate teaching and learning.Key words: Stress manifestations, Location of school, School administration, Teaching-Learning Process.

However, in Tanzanian public secondary schools, there is inequality in the provision of these resources such that the community secondary schools have very few laboratory resources. Yet, these schools sit for the same national examination with better resources' schools. This study focused on exploring teachers' experiences of teaching science subjects with limited laboratory resources in community secondary schools in Lindi region in Tanzania. The study employed qualitative case study design. The research participants of the study were four science teachers from two community secondary schools. Data was collected through qualitative semi-structured interviews, classroom observation, focus group discussion and informal conversations. The study identified that there is a great deficiency in the availability of science laboratories resources. Whereas one school has a laboratory with limited resources, in the other school, uses movable laboratory to perform science experiments since the school has no laboratory. The findings of the study indicated that science teachers experience difficulties in teaching and learning science because of inadequate laboratory resources. Since 1990s to date, there has been a growing global interest among researchers in impact assessment of research and development (R&D). Attention has specifically been placed on the impact of R&D interventions on target beneficiaries. In this regard, this work, besides reviewing studies on impact assessment of agricultural research in Tanzania it documents the experience of Tanzanian farmers in the use of innovations by focusing on rice research-based innovations. Adaptation rather than adoption of innovations is evident in smallholder rice farming. Moreover, it sheds light on the limitation of the production-based reductionist approach in assessing the impact of research on food security. The economic costs and benefits of rice research in rain-fed agriculture in Tanzania are also presented. A study was designed to evaluate the perceived impact of headteacher transfers on the management of Government Grant Aided Secondary Schools in Kampala district, Uganda, East Africa. Fifty percent of Headteachers, 90% of the deputies, 50% of Board of Governors, 23% of teachers participated in the study. The findings showed that not in all transfer cases are the Board of Governors consulted. Thus, they are forced either to accept or reject the new headteacher. It was also established that transfer of a headteacher has an effect on staff management because the new head may differs from the old, in terms of personality and interpersonal skills and attitudes, experience and the style of leadership. To a lesser extent, the Management of students'discipline was interfered with especially after the transfer of a disciplinarian headteacher. The Ministry of Education and Sports is advised to work hand in hand with all the stakeholders to be involved in the process of headteacher transfers. Further studies are needed to understand transfers of headteachers of other types of schools in the Education sector in Uganda and neighboring states of the East African region.
